About This Course

A practical, field-oriented training program designed specifically for community health workers (CHWs), relay agents, peer educators, and community-based organization staff in Cameroon who work at the frontline of HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and support.

The Community HIV/AIDS Control Module equips participants with up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge and actionable skills to effectively contribute to Cameroon’s national goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 (in line with the Cameroon National Strategic Plan for HIV/AIDS 2021-2026 and the global 95-95-95 targets).

Delivered in an interactive, adult-learning format that combines short courses (typically 5–10 days) or as modular sessions, the training combines classroom teaching, role-plays, group work, community mapping exercises, and supervised field practice to ensure skills are immediately applicable in rural and urban settings across Cameroon’s ten regions.

Learning Objectives

the Community HIV/AIDS Control Module, participants will learn the essential foundations of HIV/AIDS (basic facts, key definitions, and how the virus affects the body), the exact ways HIV is and is not transmitted, and the everyday prevention methods everyone can use. They will master the four pillars of PMTCT, understand how gender inequality and human rights violations drive the epidemic, and discover practical ways to challenge stigma and protect vulnerable groups. Finally, they will gain a clear, confident understanding of their own critical role as community health workers – from mobilising communities and supporting treatment to linking people to care – so they can return to their villages ready to educate, prevent new infections, and help people living with HIV live healthy lives.
