This section explains the four essential pillars of Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) in simple, practical terms. It covers: (1) primary prevention of HIV in women of childbearing age, (2) prevention of unintended pregnancies among women living with HIV, (3) prevention of transmission from mother to child through antenatal testing, antiretroviral treatment, safe delivery, and infant prophylaxis, and (4) ongoing care, treatment and support for mother, partner and baby. Participants learn how to mobilise pregnant women for early antenatal care, support treatment adherence, and link families to services so that every baby in their community can be born HIV-free.
