MODULE ON COMBATING HIV/AIDS IN THE COMMUNITY
About This Course
HIV/AIDS remains a major public health challenge, particularly in many communities where access to information, prevention services, and treatment may be limited. Despite significant progress in reducing transmission and improving treatment outcomes, stigma, discrimination, and lack of awareness continue to hinder effective control of the disease.
This module is designed to equip healthcare workers, community health volunteers, and caregivers with the knowledge and practical skills required to prevent, identify, and manage HIV/AIDS at the community level. It emphasizes a holistic and community-centered approach that integrates prevention, early detection, treatment support, and social inclusion.
Participants will learn about:
- The basic concepts of HIV and AIDS, including transmission and progression
- Prevention strategies, including safe practices and community education
- The importance of HIV testing and counseling services
- Antiretroviral therapy (ART) and adherence support
- Addressing stigma and discrimination within communities
- Strategies for community engagement and awareness creation
- Care and support for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS
By the end of this module, learners will be able to actively contribute to reducing HIV transmission, supporting affected individuals, and promoting healthier, more informed communities.
This course aligns with global and national efforts to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services, and to ultimately end the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
