About This Course

Introduction

Nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining good health, supporting growth and development, and preventing disease across all stages of life. Adequate nutrition is especially critical for children, pregnant and lactating women, and vulnerable populations, as it directly influences immunity, physical development, and overall well-being.

Malnutrition—whether undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, or overnutrition—remains a significant public health challenge in many communities. Addressing these issues requires effective community-based strategies that promote healthy eating habits, early detection of nutritional problems, and appropriate interventions.

This module is designed to equip healthcare workers, community health volunteers, and caregivers with the knowledge and practical skills needed to improve nutritional outcomes at the community level. It emphasizes prevention, early identification, and management of common nutrition-related conditions.

Participants will learn about:

  • The basic principles of nutrition and balanced diets
  • Nutritional needs across different life stages
  • Identification and management of malnutrition
  • Key micronutrients and their importance
  • Infant and young child feeding practices
  • Nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Community-based strategies for nutrition education and support

By the end of this module, learners will be able to promote healthy nutrition practices, identify individuals at risk, and support interventions that improve the nutritional status of individuals and communities.

This course contributes to strengthening preventive healthcare and building healthier communities through improved nutrition awareness and practices.
