MODULE ON WATER, HYGIENE AND SANITATION (WASH)
About This Course
Access to clean water, proper hygiene, and adequate sanitation are fundamental to human health and well-being. Poor water quality, inadequate sanitation, and unsafe hygiene practices are major contributors to the spread of infectious diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and other preventable illnesses, particularly in vulnerable communities.
This module is designed to equip healthcare workers, community health volunteers, and stakeholders with the knowledge and practical skills needed to promote and implement effective Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation (WASH) interventions at the community level. It emphasizes preventive approaches that reduce disease transmission and improve overall public health.
Participants will learn about:
- The importance of safe water sources and treatment methods
- Key principles of personal and environmental hygiene
- Proper handwashing techniques and practices
- Safe sanitation systems and waste management
- The link between WASH and disease prevention
- Community strategies for behavior change and awareness creation
- The role of CHWs in promoting sustainable WASH practices
By the end of this module, learners will be able to promote safe hygiene behaviors, support access to clean water and sanitation, and contribute to reducing the burden of waterborne and hygiene-related diseases in their communities.
This course supports efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare systems, improve living conditions, and build healthier and more resilient communities.
