MODULE ON CHW MEDICATION, INPUTS & SUPPLY MANAGEMENT

Effective medication and supply management is essential for the successful delivery of healthcare services at the community level. Community Health Workers (CHWs) play a critical role in ensuring that essential medicines, medical inputs, and supplies are available, properly stored, and appropriately used to support quality care and improve health outcomes. This module is designed to equip CHWs and healthcare providers with the knowledge and practical skills required to manage medications and health commodities efficiently within the community. It emphasizes accountability, proper handling, and systematic tracking of supplies to prevent shortages, wastage, and misuse. Participants will learn about: The importance of essential medicines and health inputs in community healthcare Principles of inventory and stock management Proper storage conditions and handling of medications Monitoring stock levels and preventing stock-outs Recording and reporting using stock cards and registers Safe dispensing and rational use of medicines Identifying and managing expired or damaged supplies Strengthening the supply chain system at the community level By the end of this module, learners will be able to effectively manage medications and supplies, ensure continuous availability of essential commodities, and support high-quality service delivery within their communities.
