About This Course

Maternal health and family planning are essential components of a strong and effective healthcare system. Ensuring the health and well-being of mothers not only saves lives but also contributes to healthier families and communities. Access to quality maternal healthcare and informed family planning services plays a critical role in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality.

This module focuses on empowering healthcare workers, community health volunteers, and caregivers with the knowledge and practical skills needed to support maternal health and promote responsible family planning at the community level. It emphasizes the importance of continuum of care—from pre-pregnancy, through pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.

Participants will learn about:

  • The importance of antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care
  • Recognition of danger signs during pregnancy and childbirth
  • Safe motherhood practices and birth preparedness
  • The role and benefits of family planning in improving maternal and child health
  • Different family planning methods and their appropriate use
  • Counseling techniques for informed decision-making
  • Addressing cultural beliefs, myths, and misconceptions
  • Community strategies to improve access and uptake of services

By the end of this module, learners will be equipped to support women and families in making informed health decisions, promote safe pregnancy and childbirth practices, and contribute to reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
